Classes - In Person
Each "Required For Tool Use" class has two sections - Online and Hands On
Become a member of our online Community to take the online portion of our "Required For Tool Use" classes. Then visit our location to schedule the hands on portion. Upon completion of the online and hands on classes you will able to; use the tools associated with the class, schedule time on more popular tools, and work with a Makerspace Technician on redistricted use tools. Our Makerspace Technicians will be happy to meet you and they look forward to helping you learn new skills.
Laser Safety 101 - Required For Tool Use
This class will teach you the basics and safety for using the Laser.
What will I make? You will use the Laser to make a sign.
Are there prerequisites? Laser Safety 101
Are there age restrictions? You must be at least 18 years old to attend this class. If attendee is under the age of 18 years old, then their guardian must also be enrolled in the class.
What are the safety requirements? Safety glasses are required. Hearing protection is suggested during use of tools. You must wear closed-toed shoes in order to attend this class. (you will receive glasses and ear protection as part of the class)
Upon completion of this class you may book time in the wood shop to utilize the Laser.
Woodshop Safety 101 - Required For Tool Use
This class will teach you the basics and safety for using the Table Saw, Miter Saw, Band Saw, and hand power tools in the shop.
What will I make? You will use a combination of the tools to build a small frame.
Are there prerequisites? No
Are there age restrictions? You must be at least 18 years old to attend this class. If attendee is under the age of 18 years old, then their guardian must also be enrolled in the class.
What are the safety requirements? Safety glasses are required. Hearing protection is suggested during use of tools. You must wear closed-toed shoes in order to attend this class. (you will receive glasses and ear protection as part of the class)
Upon completion of this class you may book time in the wood shop to utilize the Table Saw, Band Saw, Miter Saw, hand power tools, and basic hand tools.
CarveWright Machines 101 - Required For Tool Use
This class will teach you the basics and safety for using the CNC Router.
What will I make? You will use the CNC Router to make wooden sign.
Are there prerequisites? Woodshop Safety 101
Are there age restrictions? You must be at least 18 years old to attend this class. If attendee is under the age of 18 years old, then their guardian must also be enrolled in the class.
What are the safety requirements? Safety glasses are required. Hearing protection is suggested during use of tools. You must wear closed-toed shoes in order to attend this class. (you will receive glasses and ear protection as part of the class)
Upon completion of this class you may book time in the wood shop to utilize the CNC Router.
Wood Lathe Safety 101 - Required For Tool Use
This class will teach the basic use of the Wood Lathe. You will learn the safety aspects of the machine, as well as, how to mount material and remove it.

Are there any tools required? Tools will be provided for the class, but you may purchase your own set. There is a set at Harbor Freight that is acceptable and low cost. Here is the link:

The instructor may contact you once you are registered and can answer questions about other options, including tools you may have already.
Do I need to provide any material? No. There will be material provided for the class.
What will I make? No finished project will be made.
Are there prerequisites? Yes. You must have completed Wood Shop Safety 101
Are there age restrictions? You must be at least 18 years old to attend this class.
What are the safety requirements? Closed toed shoes are required to be in the shop. A face shield will be provided on loan for this class. Ear protection will be provided and is optional. No loose clothing. Long hair should be pulled back.
Upon completion of this class, you may book time on the Lathe with a Makerspace Technician.
