Chief Innovation Officer - Krystal Conway-Cunningham
Mrs. Krystal Conway-Cunningham is a high school math and science teacher at the Frankfort Independent School District. She is in her sixth year of instruction at FISD and has over 10+ years as an educator. She served as first responder for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion issues at FISD, and was the head coach for the Frankfort High School Academic Team for three years.
Krystal obtained an associate degree in liberal studies at Kentucky State University through the Whitney M. Young Honors Program. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in math in 2014 and a master’s degree in environmental studies in 2017, both from Kentucky State University. Through her environmental studies program, Krystal served as a graduate research assistant and researched high tunnel and low tunnel produce production. She earned a master’s degree in Secondary Education and Teaching in 2017 from Morehead State University with a concentration in gifted and talented and math grades 5-12. She also has a certification from Eastern Kentucky University to teach environmental science. Currently, Krystal is working on a doctorate in education, grades preschool-12 administration at Morehead State University.
Krystal has been named to the 2023 Class of GoTeachKY Ambassadors by the Kentucky Department of Education, where she works to recruit the next generation of Kentucky educators. She serves as a Board of Directors Member for the Josephine Sculpture Park, Frankfort, KY and is an advisory council member for the Wanda Joyce Robinson Foundation.
Krystal served as a guest panelist for the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative in Los Angeles, CA in 2021. She collaborated with colleagues to address teaching and research issues and spoke on the importance of building a positive rapport between students and teachers using the App called Along. Other topics included using technology to instruct distance learning instruction for students remotely, creating meaningful learning experiences, and implementing instructional technology in course development to engage and educate students. She was featured in two Chan-Zuckerberg initiative commercials for their Along app, 2021.
Krystal is the Chief Innovation Officer for the Franklin Center For Innovation and is a member of the FCFI board. She is the co-founder of C-Squared Creations 502, LLC, which provides maker opportunities, cooking classes, and events to inspire life skills for underserved youth. A primary goal of Krystal’s is to educate others about the influence of trauma in education and teach instructors techniques to provide trauma informed care.
Krystal is from Birmingham, Alabama. She was a member of the gifted and talented program in elementary and middle school. She graduated high school with honors and was valedictorian. Krystal is the daughter of Shana Conway, a veteran of the United States Army. She is the wife of Tisa Conway-Cunningham, and the fur mother of Kane Conway-Cunningham.
